Bollywood faces a downfall not only at the Box office but also in the Indian Premiere League. At the Box office Bollywood movies suffered a huge loss resulting in the downfall early in the year 2010. The first three months Bollywood suffered a loss of around Rs 200 crore. The chief reason behind the loss was the ongoing Indian Premiere League but the class and the movie content was also put to blame. You can't deny the fact that starting from January till March the movies that have released did not have the content and the potential to go big. Failure of medium-to-big budget movies like Dulha Mil Gaya, Chance Pe Dance, Rann, Teen Patti and Pyaar Impossible, led to severe losses.
When movies where bombing at the Box office, Shahrukh Khan's My Name Is Khan gained prominence as it connected well with the audience and earned some money as well. Though, it earned a lot of money but it failed to remunerate for the loss that Bollywood suffered all along. And other small and semi budget movies like Ishqiya and Love, Sex Aur Dokha were well acclaimed by the critics for putting up some valiant performances but none was a money spinner.
And now, when we see the IPL, Bollywood is stranded over there too. The teams of Bollywood franchises were not able to give their best in the whole tournament. This year, Preity Zinta's Kings XI Punjab is placed last in the points table. They have showcased horrifying performance this year as their key players didn't perform in the whole tournament and in the halfway staged they were ruled out of the competition. They are the first to be out of IPL Season 3. Hard Luck Preity!
The second to go out of the competition was Shilpa Shetty's Rajasthan Royals. Yep! They held the trophy in the very IPL season but this year they were outperformed by the other teams. Shilpa Shetty's expectation and their coach cum Captain Shane Warne's admiration and motivation could do the trick for them this time around. Rajasthan Royals are lingering second-last in the points table. No Halla Bol for Shilpa Shetty this year.
Lastly, King Khan of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan is no stranger to failure in the world of T20 cricket. This is the third consecutive year that SRK and his team Kolkata Knighriders have been ruled out of the league. Troika in a row they have failed to qualify to the semifinals of the Indian Premiere League. SRK may be the supreme star of Bollywood but in the world of cricket he has surely taken some beating. Though "Korbo Lorbo Jitbo" has been their mantra, they have surely taken the pains to take the initiative and fight but they are yet to experience the sweet taste of success. The King of Bollywood ain't going down without a fight!
So Bollywood movies are surely having a hard time toiling around the cricket field and also at the Box office. Post IPL there are some biggies all set to hit the theatres and Housefull starring Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Lara Dutta, Jiah Khan, Riteish Deshmukh is slated to release on the 30st of April. Hope Bollywood survives the backlash and jumps back to the top at where it belongs!!!
